NOTICE: The Lithuanian Development Agency (LDA) has been restructured into two public organizations - "Invest Lithuania" and "Enterprise Lithuania". The Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania is the owner of the two new institutions.


Barclays Bank Starts Exploring Business Possibilities in Lithuania

The Lithuanian Ministry of Economy has signed a Letter of Intent (“LOI”) with Barclays Bank PLC (“Barclays”) to explore the possible establishment of a Barclays Technology Centre in Vilnius, Lithuania.

The Lithuanian Development Agency has been assisting Barclays in acquiring necessary information and data on the Lithuanian market as well as establishing a business contact network. Barclays is considering Vilnius as a potential location for a new Technology Centre to support its Global Retail and Commercial Banking activities. Vilnius is an attractive location for Barclays because of its strong talent pool of highly-skilled technology professionals, as well as its world-class infrastructure. »


World Lithuanian Economic Forum Gathered Lithuanians on 2-3 July 2009

World Lithuanian businesses and the Lithuanian diaspora are attended the World Lithuanian Economic Forum, a significant Lithuanian business and economics event took place for the 3rd time, on 2-3 July 2009, in Vilnius.

Lithuania is the intellectual potential of the World Lithuanians. Leaders in economics and business of the Lithuanian origin and of different generations gathered to the Forum to discuss about the prospects for more competitive business in Lithuania as well as to celebrate the Millennium of Lithuania.»

Economic Outlook for Lithuania (Central Bank’s Forecast)

Due to the economic downturn in Lithuania, which began in the end of 2008, macroeconomic imbalances of several recent years are diminishing. In the first months of 2009, the current account become almost balanced, inflation and wage growth is decreasing significantly. The current downturn will be related to material structural changes; however, capability of enterprises and households to react flexibly to unfavourable economic shocks provides the grounds for a successful long-term economic development.»
